TWO MONTHS’ OUTPUT .SLIGHT DECREASE SHOWN STOCKS IN STORE LOWER There has been a decrease of 2.84 per cent, in butter-fat production in the Dominion fur tho first two months of the current dairying season, in comparison with the corresponding period of tho previous season. According to tho figures Of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture there has been an increase of 5.3 P per cent, in the output of butter and a decrease of 40.16 per cent, iu cheese production. “Although climatic conditions have not been favourable during the period and have somewhat retarded production/’ states Mr W. M. Singleton, director of the Dairy Division, “the regulations recently gazetted, making it compulsory for cheese to remain in factory curing rooms ror three weeks during September, as against 14 days previously, accounts for much of the apparent decrease in cheese.” Salted butter graded for September, 1931, was 7310 tons and tho unsalted 67 tons, a total of 7377 tons, compared with 7210 tons salted and 211 tons unsalted, a total of 7421 tons for September of last year, a decrease of 0.59 per cent. For the two months ended September, 1931, tho respective quantities were 10,933 tons and 81 tons, a total of 11,014 tons, compared with 10,229 tons and 230 tons, a total of 10,459 tons for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 5.30 per cent. The cheese graded for September, 1931, comprised—White, 1661 tons; coloured, 1379 tons; a total of 3040 tons, compared with 3081 tons white and 1755 tons coloured, a total of 4836 tons for September, 1930, a decrease of 37.13 per cent. The quantities for the two months ended September, 1931, wore:—-White, 1790 tons; coloured, 1490 tons, a total of 3280 tous, compared with 3414 tons white and 2068 tons coloured, a total of 5482 tons, for the corresponding period of the preceding season, a decrease of 40.16 per cent. Stocks held in tho various grading ports at September 30, 1931, were:— Butter, 3919 tons; cheese, 3025 tons, as compared with 4488 tons butter and 3590 tons cheese held on September 30. 1930.
