WOMEN’S CRICKET

THE CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. Women’s cricket, after achieving popularity in England, and other parts of the Empire, is about to become an accomplished fact in Christchurch (states an exchange). At the meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association this week the following letter was received from the secretary of the newly-formed Christchurch Women’s Cricket Club: — “We are forming a women’s cricket club in Christchurch, and 1 am writing to ask if your committee can assist us in procuring some material which may be of no further use to your association or clubs. We would be most grateful to receive any bats, pads, bails or gloves to begin practice with,- and also a copy of any rules you may have which will be of benefit to us. You might also let us know if we are to join any association, and if there are any fees to be paid.’’ Mr. W. Simpson, chairman, said that there was no material under the control of the association. That was a matter for the clubs. “We will have any amount to do on our ow r n account,” said Mr. W. H. Winson. “It is going to be a hard season.” “We should encourage them to play the game,” said Mr. A. Dey, and his opinion was echoed round the table. It was decided to poin J out that the committee was not in a position to assist with material, but that any other assistance possible would be given. SOCIAL EVENING AT GONVILLE.
