The recognition of their leader’s splendid work in the cause of education is very gratifying to women’s institute, members, who tender her sincerest congratulations. Their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe, have offered a prize of £5 for an essay on “The Best Means of Making the Women’s Institute of Real Benefit to the Rural Areas of New Zealand.” Other interesting competitions are for gloves made from home (or New Zealand) cured skins, and for a handknitted jumped made from white wool spun with a spindle, the neck and cuffs of which may be coloured with dyes obtained from native plants.
