TOWN BOARD. Tho usual monthly meeting of the Mangaweka Town Board was held in the Board’s office. 'The following commissioners were present: Messrs H. Millner (chairman), J. Graham, W. Watson and 8. Dickinson. Leave of absence was granted to Commissioner G. Toms. The engineers report was received as satisfactory. Correspondence.—A letter was received from the secretary of the Treasury in connection with, the rate of interest Bill. The secretary of the Municipal Assoeiaton wrott on matters in connection with the resolution of the Emergency Committee on the provisions of the Transport Licensing Bill 1931. After a general discussion it was decided that the Board oppose the Bill. Airs M. F. Thompson waited on the Board in connection with the ranger in sueing her for allowing her stock to wander on the public road.—The Board stated that it was not possible for them to do anything in this matters. Acounts amounting to £364 8s 3d foi the Town Board and £3 10s for the Lib- ( rary were passed for payment. EUCHRE PARTY. There was a large attendance of play- ! crs at the Anglican Guild euchre party .<m Friday evening last. The popularity ■of these evenings was evinced by i.n ! attendance of some seventy people and a very enjoyable time was spent. The winner of the ladies’ prize wag Mrs ! Pairman and the gent’s prize was carried off by Air G. Toms. SNOOKER TOURNAMENT. The final game jn thi- tournament : was played off last vcek, M. Guinane ; (18) meeting B. Aston (S). After a very keen contest M. Guiuanc proved , the winner by a margin of 11 points. Keen interest is being takei in the I billiard tournament now in progress, i Some forty players being entered to [take part. The result of the first round should ! be available during the week. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. A short sitting of the local Magittrate’s Court was held on Friday mornj ing. August 14. Misses H. Johnston 'and S. Dickinson J.P.’s presiding. For i allowing stock to wander on the public I road M. F. Thompson was fined 10s, 1 costs 10s and 10s 6d solicitor’s expenecs, for similar offences J. Waugh was ordered to pay costs 10s, solicitors fees 10s 6d; D. Wakins fined 10s costs 10s, solicitor’s fees 10s 6d; M. Trewby | costs 10s, solicitor’s fees 10g 6d. PERSONAL. I Miss M. Kreger has been visiting her j >istcr Mrs F. Heise. Air T. Lee who has been on a short visit to Mangaweka has returned i Wanganui.
