DANCE AT UPPER TUTAENUI HALL A dance will be held on Friday even- I ing in the Upper Tutaenui Hall. Prices of admission are: Gents 2s, ladies Is 6d or basket. THE CIVIC THEATRE “DU BARRY, WOMAN OF PASSION” In all the gallery of the world’s heroines no more fascinating woamn lives than Du Barry, the little milliner who became a King’s favourite and the idol of a pleasure-mad aristocracy. Admirably portrayed by the “Sarah Bernhardt of the Screen,” Norma Talmadge makes this great adventuress a living, breathing person as real as folks you know, as colourful as a romance, as fascinating as a flirtation. Tho thrilling career of Du Parry has made her the supreme heart queen of the ages. A King begged for her favours! Her every wish was a command! Glamorous Lady of Love hungering at a banquet of kisses for the caress of a true man’s devotion! Beyond the scented walls of her heart’s prison a soldier waited—bitter, disillusioned, while she greedy for ! power and luxury, played at love, swayed a kingdom and tasked the dregs of passion’s cup. “Du Barry, Woman of Passion,” will be screened at the Civic Theatre this afternoon and evening, and also on Thursday evening. JUNIOR FOOTBALL TO-DAY’S MATCHES FnR • • o- r re th- f 'e ' .r j.Jrnr Ideld . iatc tOlay:— Bulls v. Halcombe, at Bulls (Air West wood). Hunterville v. Old Boys, at Hunterville (Mr Shanley). Bulls have • home game against Halcombe, and the local boys can be ex-

pected to make things warm for Halcombe. Against Old Boys in their last match at Bulls, the latter showed splendid form, particularly in the forwards, and Old Boys were somewhat lucky to win. In Bromley, Cole and Cross.and, they have three really line forwards who are a continual source of danger to any team. A very even 1 game should result, as Halcombe will I be all out to win on account of their I handy position in the championship. Old Boys have a score to wipe out at Hunterville, and to win the contest they must not lost a single matchJ hence their selection of a strong side for to-m< row. Old Boys, as a team, are probably the most inconsistent fifteen in the competition and it is quite on the cards th t Hunterville will upset them to-morrow. Hunterville are I capable of beating any team and their win against Halcombe last week makes them harder in price, although it must be conceded that Halcombe were somewhat unlucky to lose the match. Ohingaiti, who have challenged Old Roys for the Bengal Cup for next week, forfeited to Athletic. This trophy was lifted from Ohingaiti in the first round by Old Boys (who subsequently lost it to Athletic and then recaptured it later), and, apparently, in whatever light they consider their place in the championship, they look upon it as a matter of honour to endeavour to wrest it from Old Boys. Teams have been selected as under: Old Boys: E. Lewis, M. Lyon, 8. Kennedy, J. Hammond, L. Barry, R. Aloore, I. Jones, H. Gordon. H. Moss, S. Powell, A. Hansen, L. Mcßeth, L. Thompson, H. Coles, J. Henderson. RANGITIKEI HUNT CLUB At a general committee meeting of tho above club on Tuesday afternoon the chairman (Mr D. G. Riddiford) referred to the death of the late Mr Evan McGregor in tho hunting field, who had been one of the staunch supporters of hunting in the district. They ; sadly deplored the unfortunate accident, which deprived them of one of the straightest riders in the field, and his presence would be sadly missed in the future. A vote of condolence to the widow and relatives of the deceased gentleman was carried by the members standing in silence. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the >vners of the properties over which the Point-to-Point Steeplechases were held, to the donors of the trophies and also to the ladies’ committee, who suprevised the supper arrangements at the ball. , JUNIOR XEFORM LEAGUE i A general meeting of the Junior Roj form League, Rangitikei branch, will be held this evening at 8 o’clock in the Jockey Club’s rooms.
