OHAKUNE

BOROUGH COUNCIL At the monthly meeting of the Ohakune Borough Council the Mayor, Mr G-. J. Goldfinch, presided, and there ' were present, Crs. J. Jones, O. Spiller, W. S. Baird, L. W. Nation,, H. Dele- ■ mar, E. Purdon, J. Murdie, and T. i Purvis. The town clerk reported that Crs. i Nation and Murdie and himself, with i the electrical staff, had attended the i official opening of the Raetihi electrical ■ deviation. The Ohakune Fire Brigade invited the councillors to the annu 1 meeting. The Treasury notified that interest on new loans above 5 per cent were reduced | per cent. P. Royall complained of the condition of the Ruapehu road.—Attended to. P. Royall applied for permission to erect a wood-shed. The health inspector forwarded report for month. Works. General maintenance had been carried out by the permanent staff, and supervision of relief workers attended to. On the motion of the Mayor a taxi license was granted D. Moore subject to his car being put in satisfactory order. Finance. The treasurer was directed no to include for payment in future any account received after the 3rd of the month they are dated, but to hold them over till the next month. It was agreed that the Council purchase concrete pipes to repair Rata Street bridge. Electrical. The electrical engineer reported as follows:—The plant has operated satisfactorily during the month, service being continous. Abundance of water has enabled both turbines to bo used every day, making it unnecessary to draw power from Raetihi except on Sunday, July 12, when the plant was shut down for alterations to the power station switchboard. The revising and alteration to the board are now almost completed. Three new current transformers have been installed and connected. Additional lighting points have been installed in the station, the extensions made to the switchboard having caused the original lighting to bo inadequate. Racks and sound buckets have been erected alongside Nos. 1 and 2 generators in compliance with regulations. The number of units sent out totalled 40,120, and for last year the figures for July were 36,525. The number of units sold and accounted for by meter is as follows: Lighting 7441, heating 9336, total 16.- | ' 777. Installations for the month were 3 community lights, 5 heating points, and 2 lighting points. Wet weather prevented much work being done to the linos. The only fault was a break in an aluminium service line in an area not yet reconstructed. The engineer proposed to instal an additional fire hydrant outside and towards the eastern end of tho power station. Receipts for July were £398 14s 3d, and expenditure £l7l. 5s sd, leaving a credit balance of £227 8s 10d.
