CORRESPONDENCE DEALT WITH At the monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council held yesterday, the following members were present: Crs. D. Mackintosh, Gregor McGregor. D. AfcGregor, A. Collins, W. E. Broderick, T. Mitchell, A. Rice. W. Craig, H. Hamilton,. J. Kennedy. General business and correspondence was dealt with in the usual mahner. Amongst the letters received was one from the Wanganui Automobile Association directing the attention of the council to the nuisance that was caused by straying stock. It was decided to write to the association stating that the inspectors were unable to impound stock owing to the objections of the Highway Board. C. A. Silcock wrote thanking the council and the engineer for the manner in which they had treated him in connection with his road fence, at the Wangaehu Hill. Afr Silcock said that he had been | put to a good deal of inconvenience I during the past months, and he appre- ■ c.iated the work that had been done by : the council. He hoped that in future | there would not be any further mishaps | owing to motorists going through it. ; Afr Afackintosh said that it was only J fair to write and thank Afr Silcock for the patience he had had with the council. He did not think that there was another ratepayer who would have shown as much consideration. It was decided to write a letter, conveying the remarks of the chairman. As a result of a letter from Afr T. Dix with regard to the ferryman’s duties at Upokongaro; it was decided that the matter be looked into by a committee. P. Vaughan wrote complaining that spoil had boon dumped on his fence and broken it. He requested that the council should re-erect the same. It was decided 1o repair the fence and the matter was left to the engineer to deal with. H. Pumipi wrote asking that work on road formation in the vicinity of the Putiki School and Church should bo. given to the Afaori unemployed. The matter was loft to the engineer and chairman tn deal with.
