SOCIAL AND GIFT EVENING
The Kai Iwi Hall was the scene of a very enjoyable evening on Thursday last, when Airs E. Rountree and Afrs A. Thomson entertained Aliss Phyllis Aforrison . t a social and gift evening held in honour of her approaching marriage. Although the night was very cold the hall was crowded with both young and old. Games and novelty dances were held, they being very amusing and enjoyed by all During the evening Hr E. Rountree gave a very appropriate speech, remarking on the numerous gifts that were on display and o ’ the large crowd present, which spoke for itself of Phyllis’ popularity in the district. Mr A. Holland, on behalf of Aliss Alorison, suitably responded. Humorous recitations we ergiven by Air S. Tarrant and Afaster James Rountree, they being heartily applauded by the audience. Songs were contributed I y local talent, and very much appreciated, they being rendered by Afrs A. Thomson. Aliss F. AlcCulloch and Messrs F. Huwylcr, and R. Edwards. Three splendid items were given by six little maori boys under the leadershin of R. Edwards. Accompanists for the evening were, Afrs F. Huwylcr, Aliss N. Eccles and Air F. Teuawiri. Splendid dance music was supplied by H. E. Teuawiri, extras being played by Miss D. AfcGuire, D. AfcGuire, and Afessrs AfcGuire and Dykes. Afr F. C. Sweney capably fulfilled he duties of M.C. The serving of an excellent supper was under the capable management r p . the following Indies and helpers: Alesdames A. Thomson, E. Rountree, Jas. Sarman, F. Huwylcr, Miss N. Eccles and Afes-rs E. Rountree, A. Thomson, E. Wilton, T as Barclay and A. Holland. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” • nd “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” brought a happy evening to a close.
