Mr T. McCarten, of Hawera, is lowing New Zealand for England , week in anticipation of joining thf . Royal Air Force. AVeston, D. 5.0., V-D., and Major G. F. Bertrand have received advice from London headquarters of Jhe Legion of Frontiersmen of the award of the Meritorious Medal. Mr N. H. Nash, editor and managing director of the Manawatu Evening Standard, has arrived in England on a. well-earned holiday, after 50 rears <>f newspaper work in tho Dominion, writes a London correspondent. Dr Sprott, Anglican Bishop of AVeh lington, will arrive in AVanganui to-day and will be the guest of the Rev. and Mrs Pierce, of the AVanganui Collegiate School. To-morrow morning he will dedicate the new font at Matarawa. He will conduct the confirmation service at the Collegiate School in the evening. Mr 11. E. Barrowclough, prior to his departure from Dunedin for Auckland, was fare welled by the Dominion Chamber of Commerce. The president said that Mr Barrowclough had made his mark as a barrister, and in Auckland he would find still greater scope for his ability. Special mention was m.-idg#' by speakers of the part tho guest hw played in the public life of the citjX The Aero Club, of which he was president, made presentations to Mr Bar* rowclough. From 1907 to 1912 Mr Barrowclough was a pupil of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, passing the matriculation examination and gaining a junior university scholarship.
