BATTING AT BRISTOL THE GLOUCESTER MATCH LOWRY MISSES CENTURY BRISTOL, Aug. 10. Goo.d batting by Lowry, Dempster, Vivian and Blunt gave the New Zealand cricketers a respectable first innings lead in the match against Glouces tershire. Play was resumed at 2.15 after steady rain in the morning. Mills was dismissed by Rogers with a fast, medium height ball which came in quickly. Dempster and Vivian added 75 by sound cricket. The latter attacked the bowling confidently and hit sixes off Goddard and Sinfield. He was caught in attempting to steer a ball to leg. He batted 57 minutes. Dempster was caught by the wicketkeeper after an admirable all-round display. He showed no loss of form after his enforced rest. His innings lasted 98 minutes.

Weir and Page were dismissed in rapid succession, but a fine partnership between Lowry and Blunt added 127 for the sixth wicket, and placed New Zealand in a strong position. Lowry played a typical attacking innings and showed considerable skill, hitting Parker to leg against the spin. He was exceedingly unfortunate to miss the century. He batted 85 minutes and hit nine fours. Parker took three cheap wickets before stumps. Blunt played an undefeated, steady, defensive innings.
