Hughes (an English Davis Cup player), participating in the Eastern turf court championships, defeated Harry Moore (White Plains), 6—l, 6 —2 in the second round, winning the first round match by default. F. J. Perry defeated A. C. Gwyrtne (New York), 6—o, 6 —o in the second round. WIGHTMAN CUP RECORD OF U.S.A. LADIES The Wightman Cup was lost to U.S.A, last week by England, which has won four of the matches played in the last eight years. Previous winners were:— 1923 U.S.A., at Forest Hills. 1924 — England, at Wimbledon. 1925 — England, at Forest Hills. 1926 U.S.A., at Wimbledon. 1927 — U.S.A., at Forest Hills. 1928 England, at Wimbledon. 1929 U.S.A., at Forest Hills. 1930 England, at Wimbledon.
