STOPPING ITS SPREAD ' RTHER REG ULATIONS ! Advice has been received by the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce from tho Director of the Live Stock Division of the Department of Agriculture that the regulations relating to the introduction of hay, straw, and chaff packing from Great Britain and the Continent are still being contravened, and if has now become imperative that they be strictly enforced. The director goes on to state: “The regulations referred to provide inter alia, that goods packed in hay, straw, or chaff packing from Great Britain must be accompanied by the necessary certificate of declaration, either on or with the invoice, fr<K’ii the exporter or packer, countersigned as correct liy a responsible officer appointed by the High Commissioner for New Zealand to the effect that such packing has been disinfected to the satisfaction of such officer. “Hay, straw, or chaff packing from the Continent of Europe is absolutely prohibited. ‘‘.Tn the past where such packing has arrived contrary to the regulations it has been the practice to allow the goods to be landed and unpacked subject to the hay, straw, or chaff packing, as the case may be, being destroyed by burning under tho supervision of an officer of tho Department. It has now, however, been decided that as from September 20 next this practice will qot Ibe continued, and any goods arriving I after that date contrary to tho regainlpions will not bo given permission to | land.”
