OHAKUNE

COUNTY ROADS The Waimarino County Council has found it necessary to use crushed metal to repair the damage done by wet weather on the Rangataua Road, the material being obtained fro mt he Ohakune Bcrough Council as it is not possible to work the deposit on the Dreadnought. Road. Immediately the weather clears the grader will be used on this section of road, the application of which will bo effective in bringing the road back to reasonably good order. The formation of Dreadnought Road has been commenced, the culverts have been set at two filling; where the formation work is now being done. The road line has been cleared for practically the whole length, and made ready for the formation work. Banking where the camber was excessive, and super-elevation of corners have been done on the Ohakune Road, and the road brought to shape generally at these points. lhe grit deposit at Fields Ttack junction, Karioi, has been thoroughly tested by boring at intervals to a depth of 22 feet. The result being very disappointing, indicating that it will not be economical to work the deposit further. It is proposed altering the road access to make it possible to work the deposit of good grit on the road reserve and use relief workers for the purpose. The existing road near the pit, has been improved and will bo fenced by the County Council where dangerous. All the dangerous corners on the Waiouru road have been widened and metalled by the County Council.
