The Hon. W. A. Veitch arrived in Wanganui last evening. He will be present at the Police v. Press football match this afternoon. The Rev. H. G. Goring, of the Ingestre Street Baptist Church, will to-mor-row commence the sixth year of his ministry* in Wanganui. Mr H. Warring, of the local branch of Ross and Glendining and Co., has been transferred to the Nelson branch of that firm. He will leave for Nelson, to take over his new position to-day. Guests registered at Foster’s Hotel last night were: Messrs C. Lawford, T. McGill, Mr and Mrs N. Nasmith, Messrs E. B. Fraser (Auckland) A. McLeavie (Palmerston North), W. B. Reilly (Melbourne), H. Hatch, H. Johnston, T. W. McMaster (Wellington). Mr B. C. McCabe, chief draughtsman of the Lands and Survey Department, was farewelled recently by the staff of the New Plymouth office and the Land Board, on the. occasion of his transfer on promotion to Invercargill to the position of Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for the Soutland Land District. Mr McCabe has been attached to the Taranaki staff for a period of eight years, during which, period he has carried out extensive surveys and latterly held the position of chief draughtsman. On behalf of the staff. Mr W. D. Armit, Commissioner of Crown Lands, presented Mr McCabe with a travelling rug and expressed good wishes and congratulations to the departing officer, who had earned the esteem and goodwill of all those with whom he had been associated. Mr C. J. Ryan, on behalf of the members of the Land Board, spoke of the sterling good qualities of Mr McCabe, and wished him every success in his new sphere.
