MOTOR MISHAPS. It transpires that the Austin car, which was found deserted, and in a damaged condition on the Rangitikei River bridge on Sunday morning, is the property of a New Plymouth motorist, and the car was taken without the owner’s consent. There is no clue as to the identity of the joy-rider. On four out of five evenings, commencing with Saturday, cars met with mishaps on the bridge, and in most instances the damage sustained to radiators will cost a great deal to repair. A notice has been placed at the south entrance to the bridge, warning motorists of the dangerous state of the decking in wet, weather, but. the notice does not appear to have been heeded to any appreciable extent. OUTDOOR SPORTS. Several local football enthusiasts journeyed to Pahiatua on Wednesday to witness the Rangitikei v. Bush Union match for the Bebbington Shield, and the trip was full of incident. Owing to a slip blocking tho Manawatu Gorge road, ears had to tackle the hazardous Pahiatua Track, which, owing to rain and recent road works effected, was in a very dangerous condition. How over, all got through without, mishap, and football fans were rewarded with a splendid game, the scores being 8 all, with Rangitikei unlucky to lose. The return trip was made by way of tho Gorge road, and was uneventful. Owing to incessant rain rendering playing grounds unlit for play, Rugby and hockey fixtures had to be cancelled here on Wednesday. Saturday, Juno. 27, will be an open I day on the. Rangitikei Club’s golf links, and players arc to make their own arrangements. Any four-ball games play ed must give way to two-ball matches THE PICTURES.
