MERRY “Bl NAL" THE MYSTERIOUS
Dear Wendy.- Ever so many thanks for admitting me within the Hut's portals. I am going to receive a lot of amusement from among your Wendyites. For instance, they have already begun guessing at my identity, and I do pity the young man that is being accused of writing to you as “Bi Nai. j I'm ever so glad, Wendy, that you think my pen-name a suitable one, but I had so many I to choowe from, and was that mystified a.. ; to which one I would adopt, that I asked , "Mick” to help me, and she did by choosing “Bi Nai” for me. Yesterday I had | “Mick” up to see me, so we went for a walk | over the hills, and oh, what a dance my com- | panion led me. We were about two miles | from home when “Mick” discovered a chest- • nut tree, so demanded me to gather her some nuts. After fulfilling her wish I was next ordered to gather sonic wood and light. | a fire, so that my pal could have some roasted chestnuts. Everything was set. th«* tire ready for a match, when I made the discov- : ery that I’d left my matches at home. There ! was nothing else to do than to go back for | them ns “Mick” requested me to do, and do [ you know, Wendy, your Ite wouldn’t accompany me. She said she’d wait till I returned. On my way back I met “Taurangakore (has that set you puzzling, my aunty?) and for a feyv minutes forgot my mission, and also my orders to hurry. When, finally, I reached my destination and procured my matches, I had been absent from "Mick” approximately an hour. Oh, heavens, Wendy. I puzzled and puzzled my head for an excuse for my long absence as I made my way back to “Mick,” but failed to find just the tiniest of excuses, so had to listen to a lecture from my companion. While the chestnute were roasting "Mick” suggested that I sing some of the 2YA songs to her (I wonder if it would interest the 2YA Maori party to know I am one of their members?), so I agreed to do her bidding, providing she played the ukelele in accompaniment to Rome of them, and after 1 had sang my songs she sang the one "White Forget-me-not” bought us (Oh, Tibb, has that set you puzzling your little head, too?) Wendy, I like four lines of the song, so I’ll write them here: “Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes, to the very end: Will the journey take the whole long day? From morn till night, my friend.” Don’t you think they are excellent words. Wendy ? I know every time we had the good fortune to receive a visit from “White For-get-me-not” our first words were to demand that song, and another. “I Want to be Happy.” Oh, but I must not write too much or I’ll be giving "Speeding Reggie” a clue towards discovering my identity. Wendy, will you please tell "Aunty” I'm really jealous of her, as I thought, that there was only “Florette” and I who had one of "White Forget-me-not’s” maacots, and had permission to name him “Gabriel.” Yes. Wendy, I can just imagine you smiling nt a young man for possessing a doll, but you see this is an extra special kind of doll. For three years now my “Gabriel” has adorned the head of my hed, but "Florette" can beat, me, as her “Gabriel” has been on her hall table for three and a-half years. Well, Wendy. I must ring-off as I've to pack my traps for home and say good-bye to Parakino to-day. Cheerio. From "BI NAI," Parakino. I am so glad to have your letter, dear, and to know you are happy to be one of our clan. What an exacting taskmaster our "Mick” is. The words of the song arc love- 1 ly. I like them. too. Oh. ho you have a , "Gabriel” also. "Aunty” will no doubt wel- ' come the news of her "Gabriel” having ronie i brother. I see "Florette” has one as well.— ! Wendy. “TOMMY TINKER,” Makirikiri. - How j pleased I am to have your welcome letter. 1 dear. T began to wonder if I should eve'' I hear from you again. Many thanks, yes. 1 am keeping quite well. The weather has been changeable of late. Our Weather Clerk must , hurry up and send us some fine days, must he not? Oh, I think football is a good game' for boys. Keep one so warm upon cold mornings, doesn’t it ?—Wendy.
