NORTH ISLAND CONFERENCE IMPORTANT REMITS PASSED <Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., June 18. The North Island A. and P. Associations in conference to day re-elected Mr J. M. James (Masterton) president; Messrs H. B. Stuckey (Dannevirke) am J. T. K. Mitchell (Auckland) vicepresidents; Mr M. A. Conway (Mauawatu) treasurer; Messrs "McLaren (Masterton), D. Ross (Wanganui). Sandliands (Feilding), Vile (Marton), Richards (Levin), Washer (Hawera),, Lever (Tauranga), and Nelson (Whangarei) executive. Z motion that the recommendation governing champion medals be reviewed was not adopted. It was decided that once an entry was made and printed in the catalogue, no substitution of another animal be permitted. A remit was carried defining a hogget for show 7 purposes as a sheep born after July 1 till December 31 of the following year. It was agreed that an exhibitor holding a purebred animal under a lease be the recognised owner for the time being for show purposes. A remit recommending the non-publi-cation of judges’ names prior to the closing of entries was passed. There was a lengthy discussion in committee on the question of licensing side showmen. The Police Commissioner, Mr Wohlman, was present- The following remit was carried: “That in view of the strongly-expressed demand by the associations for police control of side showmen, the Government be urged to pass legislation for the purpose of licensing then under police control.”

It was decided to standardise the fat cattle classes so that entries could compete at each show without being regrouped, thus enabling exhibitors to move from show to show with the least trouble.

It was agreed that two-tooth sheep be eligible for all sheep championships at all shows held after December. It was decided that the Meat Board be asked to give consideration to the promotion of competition amongst A. and P. Associations throughout New Zealand for frozen lambs to be staged in London.
