MANGAWEKA

THE TOWN BOARD The usual monthly meeting of the Mangaweka Town Board was held in the board’s office ou Tuesday, June 9. The following members were present: Com. A. Alillner (chairman), W. Watkins and S. Dickinson. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs J. Graham and G. G. Jones. The engineer's report for the month was received as satisfactory. Correspondence A letter was received from the Wanganui Hospital Board asking the Town Board if they would forward their portion of the levy as early as possible owing to the financial position of the Hospital Board. It was decided that the levy be paid on last year’s figures. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Transport, forwarding a draft copy of the proposed new heavy traffic regulations. A letter was received from Air N. Annabell re sealing work. It’was decided that P2 chains of the Bulls-Tuumarunui Highway be bitumen sealed with three coats and also that 55 chains of the Alangaweka-Feiltling highway be sealed with two coats. The finance is to be arranged with the Highways Board for a term of ten It was decided that the main street footpaths on both sides from Bank Htreet to Raumaewa Street be scaled with a cold mix. Accounts to the amount of £139 7s lid were passed for payment. J’reparati'Uis arc well in hand for the combined Croquet and Bowling Club Ball, and with fine weather conditions it. is anticipated that a very successful fumdion should take jtlace. The ball is to be held this evening (Friday). The Alangaweka Golf Club played a game against the Hunterville Club on the local links on Wednesday afternoon. Although the results of the individual games w<*re not to hand, Alangaweka suffered a decided defeat.
