THE BUTTER MARKET

'yiIEKE is a distinctly encouraging tone in the butter market. At this time of the year, when the Irish and Danish supplies are making their appearance in London, there is every good reason to look forward to a decline in price. This lias not occurred, and there is a decided tendency to purchase in New Zealand at prices a shade higher than in London. Such conditions would seem to indicate that keen observers are of opinion that there will be an improvement in the butter market in the near future. There has also been an improvement-in regard to cheese, but the position in this regard is unsatisfactory at base in the industry, and while this unsatisfactory basis continues New Zealand cheese will labour under serious handicaps.
