GERMANY VISITS LONDON
yHEUJ-i can be no gainsaying the fact that Germany and Great Britain have been gradually drawing nearer and nearer to each other, whilst France has perceptibly been moving away from Great Britain. The visit of Dr. Curtins and Dr. Bruening to London during last week has aroused resentment in the minds of the French, which resentment has been reflected in the Parisian Press, both before the visit and afterwards. The visit was to have taken place prior to the recent meeting of the League of Nations at Geneva, but it was postponed out of consideration for French susceptibilities. Had the meeting taken place at Geneva between the British and the German statesmen it would not have attracted the notice it has done. The deliberate choosing of London as the venue for the meeting has, however, an importance of its own. If the reparations question is to be reopened, then the influence of London is invaluable, for the allied countries are indebted to England, and England to America. England was practically the backer of the allied notes of hand. As a creditor of war indebtedness Great Britain was indeed generous, and this gives her to-day a predominating position of. influence in the world of international debt settlements. The outcome of this visit wilt be watched with interest.
