Tho New Zealand-Worcester match was drawn. The sodden wicket rendered play after lunch impossible. Following is the bowling analysis in Worcestershire’s second innings: Matheson, none for 8; Talbot, none foi 15; Merritt, four for 52; Allcott, none for 9; Vivian, two for 21. Details of scores: Worcestershire. First Innings 276 Second innings .. .. seven for 112 New Zealand. First Innings 215 STRENGTH OF GLAMORGAN. The New Zealand cricket tourists Imvo commenced their threc-day match with Glamorgan at Cardiff. Glamorgan started off very well thir season with an outright win over Warwickshire in the county championship, but the result was reversed in the matches with Nottinghamshire, Middlesex, and Lancashire. Against Warwickshire Alcrcer took four wickets for 38 runs, and eight for 42. Glamorgan finished in eighth place on tho chamiponship ladder last season. M. J. Turnbull, tho captain, who was ’ a member of the last AI.C.C. team to I visit New Zealand, batted well for the county, as did Davies, Bates, Hills, Dy- ’ son and Bell, while Ryan and Mercer were tho principal bowlers, each taking over 100 wickets. J. C Clay is a fine ’ all-rounder in the side, but does not ‘ play regularly. 5 On the 1927 tour New Zealand easily ’ beat Glamorgan. The. scores were:— New Zealand, 345 (Dempster 167 not • out, Blunt 89) and 205 for six wickets (innings declared closed); Glamorgan ' 145 and 199. Dempster achieved the distinction of carrying his bat through an innings, and his brilliant display delighted a large Bank Holiday crowd. In that match Bernau was New Zealand’s most successful bowler, and Mercer did best for Glamorgan. Glamorgan, after being dismissed for 99 runs in the first innings, were taken cheaply by the Australians last year, and the county players sprung something of a surprise. The Australians had made 245 in the first innjngs and declared with 71 for one wicket in the second innings, setting Glamorgan the task of making 218 to win in two hours and three-quarters. The county’s spirited bid for success resulted in 197 runs being scored for the loss of seven wickets, Bates and TuiiJjull doing most of the hitting. The ccunty thus misled success by only 21 runs. A big improvement upon performances in the last three county championship matches will be necessary on Glamorgan’s part if the county is to extend the New Zealand team.
