OHAKUNE

BOROUGH COUNCIL The Mayor, Mr G. J. Goldfinch, an l Crs. H. Dclamar, J. H. Murdic, J. W. Nation, T. Purvcs, W. S. Baird, O. Spiller, N. Christie, J. Jones and E. Purdon signed the usual declaration and held the first meeting of the new council on Wednesday. Tho Mayor welcomed the new councillors. and Crs. Jones Baird and Nation replied. The following committees were appointed:—Finance: Crs. Jones (chairman). Baird and Purdon. Works and Reserves: Crs. Christie (chairman), Murdio and Purvcs. Electricity: Crs. Dclamar (chairman), Nation and Spiller. Cr. N. Christie was elected deputyMayor. Tho Health Inspector, Mr J. Swain. Taihapc, reported that he had dealt with six cases of diphtheria and one of scarlet fever. Ho had inspected 31 habitations, five food-selling fremises and four plumbing and drainage works. Although diphtheria eases show higher in number than usual, three homes only have been involved. All precautions against spread of infection and :il <> measures for locution of carriers h;i-.<‘ been taken with satisfactory results. No frosh eases have occurred since April .10 and present, indications are satisfactory. Inspection of various food shop premises has been carired out, also investigation of drainage nuisances and sanitary inspections at. various localities have been carried out. Ohaknne school committee wrote complaining about the riding of bicycles on the borough footpaths, pointing cut that one Or two accidents had occurred. It was decided to ask tho police to take, action against the offenders. Permission was granted W. llendererson to erect a tin shed 10ft. by 10ft. and the St. John's Church vestry to put adidtions to tho church hull. Cr.
