Loader, who was unanimously elected Deputy-Mayor. Cr. Loader briefly returned thanks for the honour conferred upon him. Committees. After the various Committees had been elected the Mayor expressed the. hope that the Works Committee would adopt a policy similar to that adopted during the past two years. This committee would have to confine its activities chiefly to maintenance work, with due consideration to clean streets. The Electric Light. The Domains Committee would still have his services. Although much useful work had been done in the past, there was still a great more to do. The Overdraft. ‘‘Much has been made of the that the Council has a credit balance of £4OOO, but if we did not have a substantial credit balance at this time of the year we would Do in a very poor position. The credit balance will soon be turned into a debit balance,” said the Mayor (Mr de Lautour) when the matter of fixing the limit of the council’s overdraft was under discussion.
