CRUDE OIL ESCAPES
SHIP’S CAPTAIN PINED [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, May 15. The master of the tanker Athelqueen, from one of the scuppers of which a large quantity of crude oil escaped into the harbour on March 19, was fined £2O by Mr Page, S.M., in a reserved judgment today. He thought that due care had not been taken but he did not think that the case was one calling for a heavy penalty. The neglect was not gross, and after the oil had escaped no pains were spared to remedy the damage and to gather in by the use of sawdust on the spilt oil.
