In compiling the list of income ‘terns fop the succeeding season it is regarded as essential that, as a first step, the proposed carrying capacity and a tentative cropping programme be outlined. Then conservative average production should be calculated, and an estimate made of the next season’s price level. assistance can be given the compiling of budget estimates by planning the programme of operations for the whole year. Such a programme, it is stated, should include an estimate of the total area sown, or intended to be sown in each crop, the expected yield, and the quantities required for seed or feed; an estimate of the sheep available for sale, arrived at by adding together the lambs bred :.nd the sheep bought and deducting the number killed, dead and missing; a similar calculation, estimating the number of sheep available fop shearing, the number of cattle or horses available for sale, or, after deducting losses through disease, the number of cows to be milked; and details in regard to the various payments to be made during the year so that these can be provided fop by setting aside the necessary amounts when receipts are coming to hand.
