BUDGETING AS A GUIDE TO ECONOMIES
RECONCILING FUTURE WORK AND INCOME
Written records of past transactions are indispensable to sound business practice; such records comprise book-keeping. Budgets. or estimates, covering future transactions, are equally indispensable, and should be especially valuable for the fanner because of the fluctuation in his returns, due to both seasons and prices, ano the necessity for him to take a conservative view of his income and to keep his expenditure within it. Valuable advice on the subject is contained in a bulletin, issued by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Lincoln Agricultural College, in which it is pointed out that by the preparation of a budget the farmer is enabled more easily to see where he can curtail expenses or what he must do to improve his returns.
