SHOOTING
DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB PRACTICE SHOOT SCORES A practice shoot was held on Saturday by the Wanganui Defence Rifle Club, but owing to the lateness of the season the attendance was small. Con ditions were good, except tor a dull light which prevented higher scoring The Batea programme was fired, i.e., 7 shots at 300, and 10 shots at 500 and 600 yards.
*Did not compete. There will be a practice next Saturday and, in view of the Union shoot on May 30, and the Batea meeting on Juno 3, a special practice will be held on May 23 at Aramoho. Strong teams from the Linton and Batea Clubs will, with other clubs, be competing m Union shoot, so local members aro ad vised to avail themselves of the prac tice offering and keep the date vacant for this annual event. Programmes for the Patea championship meeting may be obtained from the club’s secretary. Congratulations are due to Rfm. King for his recent record scores. For sme years past the record s»,ore for the Aramoho range over 300. s°o and 603 yards has stood at 1 but Rfm. King recentlv improved this by a point by scoring’ 34 at each range, thus reaching the fine total of 102 out of i possible 105. The following Saturday na also broke the record for SOO a» d 900 yaids by scoring 99 our of a possible 100, ihe previous record of 97 being made last
