BATHS AT ROTORUA

WARD BUILDINGS ADVANCED OTHER WORK LAGGING ROTORUA, March 5. Work on the new Ward Bath buildings is at last approaching completion. Only the rubber flooring and portion of the plumbing and painting work remains to be finished and this should all be done within the next 10 days or two weeks. An official opening ceremony is proposed, and though the date has not yet been decided, it will most probably take place at Easter.

The construction of the Blue Bath is progressing slowly. The excavations for the baths themselves are practically finished and the lower concrete slab for the juvenile bath Has been completed. In addition, a good dea» of drainage and other similar work has been done and considerable preliminary work in preparation for the actual construction of the building has also been completed. An official said the job was now practically ready for the material, which should commence to arrive almost immediately. It was the intention of the Public Works Department to push ahead as rapidly as possible with the juvenile bath, which should be ready in three or four months, provided the money was made available. This, he understood, had been arranged. Asked for details of the position regarding the £lO,OOO grant authorised by Parliament last November, the official indicated that authority had been received to spend on the Blue Bath nothing like this sum, in the four months since the grant was announced. The sums that had been authorised had been expended on the work done to date. Provided money was made available and the material was received as and when required, the building could be ready for use by next October. All plans necessary for the work that Vould be done for the money so far mad* available had been received, and the staff was ready to push ahead with the main building immediately the necessary instructions were issued.
