TAIHAPE

SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Taihape School Committee met on Alonday evening when Mr E. Loader occupied the chair. Business of a formal nature was transacted. The headmaster’s report read as follows: — Staff—Mr G. H. Prince, probationary assistant finishes his term at the school at the end of the year. Roll. —Primary 458, with average attendan -of 420. Secondary, 48 with average attendance of 46. a Exams. —Public exams and all school exams are now oxer.. The classes arc continuing with new work.

Sports. —The annual sports will be held next Thursday or if the day is wet, on the first available fine day. There will be no charge for admission nor canvassing for prizes.

Summer vacation. —The school will close for the summer holidays on Friday, December 19. The infant department is giving an entertainment in the Presbyterian Hall on Wednesday afternoon 12th. inst., and having its own breaking up on the Friday afternoon.

Parents, committee and others interested are invited to these functions.

Sand pits.—These have been installed and are proving very popular.

Picture benefit. —This has been arranged to take place on the afternoon of Thursday 18th. inst. As this is the last meeting before the holidays I take this opportunity of wishing members of the committee the compliments of the season, and hope that the cordial relations existing between them and the staff, will continue during the new year. SWIMMING NOTES. At a meeting of the Taihape Amateur Swimming Club on Alonday it was decided to hold the official opening of the season on Thursday, December 18, and the matter of arranging for a suitable programme for the. opening day was left in the hands of the captain, vice-captain and secretary. Mr N. Fookes was elected captain of the club in place of Air A. Alillar who has resigned. Air G. Ward was elected vice-captain, GENERAL NEWS. Knocked down by a car in Hautapu Street on Tuesday, Preston Stead, the infant son of Mr and Airs R. M. Stead, of Taihape, received injuries to his face and head, and was admitted to the Taihape hospital for treatment.

Interest in amateur athletics is becoming very pronounced in Taihape and the fact that 22 members of the local Athletic Club were observed training on the Oval Domain at an early hour on Wednesday morning augurs well for the success of the club.
