The rapid approach of the Christmas ami New Year racing carnival is brought more prominently under the notice of owners and trainers by the announcement that nominations for the pricipal fixtures are on the point of closing. Auckland Racing Club.

General entries for the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting, and forfeits for the Great Northern Derby. Great Northern Foal Stakes and Royal Stakes, close with the secretary, Mr W. S. Spence, at 5 p.m. to-day.

Manawatu Racing Club. Nominations for all handicap events, and forfeits for the Palmerston North Stakes, to be decided at the Manawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting, close with the secretary, Mr V. T. Dibble,, Palmerston North, at 9 p.m. to-day. Taranaki Jockey Club. Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting close with the secretary, Mr C. B. Webster, at 9 p.m. to-day. The programme is an attractive one and should find favour with owners and trainers. There are eight races each day, and all are well endowed with prize-money. The Christmas Handicap (open) carries 350 sovs., and is run over a mile and a-quarter; and the Flying Handicap (open) is worth 210 sovs. The Huatoki Plate, of 135 sovs. is for horses that have never won a race at a totalisator meeting and is run over a distance of seven furlongs. The Rahotu Hurdles, one mile and ahalf and 100 yards, is worth 160 sovs.; and then there are four hack races—the Atiawa Cup of 250 sovs., Borough Juvenile 140 sovs., Stewards’ Handicap 140 sovs., Stewards’ Handicap 150 sovs., and Tikorangi Stakes 135 sovs.

On the second day the open event.® are the New Plymouth Handicap (250 sovs.) and the Inglewood Handicap (200 sovs.), and the other races arc the Fitzroy Hack Handicap 135 sovs., Electric Juvenile Hack Handicap 140 sovs., Tarata Hack Hurdles 100 sovs., Uriti Hack Handicap 160 sovs., and the Warea Hack Stakes 135 sovs.

The Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting has always been a popular one with owners and trainers and the public, and with such a splendid programme this year’s gathering should be no exception to the rule.
