HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION

RESTORATION OF THURSDAY A COMMITTEE ELECTED Would the restoration of the Thursday half-holiday help Wanganui’s business? This question has been agitating many minds for some timg past. An attempt has been made to find out whether any consensus of opinion exists among the traders of the city. This movement resulted in a meeting which was held last night at Afcssrs Duigan’s rooms, Mr W. L. Young being in the chair. The pros and cons of the matter were fully discussed, and the sense of the meeting was expressed iu the two following resolutions:— “This meeting, representative of the business interests of the city of Wanganui, is strongly of the opinion that the- restoration of the Thursday half-holiday would be of very considerable benefit to the.city, and resolves that steps be taken towards securing for the community this alteration.” “That this meeting, having unanimously expressed the opinion that the restoration of the Thursday halfholiday is essential to the best interest of the city of Wanganui, resolves to form itself into a committee for the purpose of bringing the, change into effect.” Air W. H. Ward was elected secretary' pro tern. There were about 40 traders present and the above resolutions were carried unanimously.
