GONVILLE SCHOOL GRANT
Sir, —I have read with some astonishment your report in this morning’s paper under the above heading. Air J. K. Hornblow infers in the course of his remarks that the Gonville School Committee has gone behind the Education Board’s back and used the member for the district to get a grant for alteration to the school. I am surprised at a gentleman of Air Hornblow’s standing making statements like this without taking the precaution of obtaining evidence to back it up. He was evidently talking through the fulness of his ignorance, and if he had taken the trouble to enquire as a member of the Education Board he would have found out that the Gonville School Committee had not even applied to have these alterations made, and the first intimation they had that it was even proposed was when the Education Board advised them officially that a grant had been made and that the work would be done. Now, Sir, the nicniberp of the Gonville School Committee put in a lot of time and hard work to keep their school up to the mark and wc don’t crave publicity for it, but when wc arc brought to public notice we strongly object to uncalled for remarks and being accused of underhand work. Air Hornblow also brings Air Veitch into it as- member for the district and I wish to state that at no time has Mr Veitch been approached by myself or any member of the committee to assist us in getting any If Air Hornblow will take the trouble to enquire further into the matter I am sure he will find that there is an apology due to the Gonville School Committee and to the Hon. W. A. Veitch for the decidedly uncalled for remarks made. NORMAN L. TYLER. Chairman, Gonville School Committee.
