Unemployment Board.

The Board to administer the special unemployment fund which is being created by collection of a flat tax of thirty shillings from males 20 years of age and upwards will be composed of the Minister of Labour (chairman), two Government nominees, one representative of the primary producers, one re presentative of secondary industries, two nominees of Labour and one returned soldiers’ representative. The dropping of a lino of “copy’’ in the article published in Saturday’s “Chronicle” resulted ia the Government nominees, the primary producers and the secondary indus'ries representatives not being mentioned. Horse Events at the Show. The approach of the Wanganui Spring Show prompted Mr H. H. Jackson, of Brunswick, in conversation with a “Chronicle” reporter, to recall the early days of showing in Wanganui ami the horse events which were a very popular feature. The first jumping he remembers was held in the centre of the oval where the football grounds are today. There was a stone wall, a water jump and brick wall all in line. Afterwards the hurdles were removed to the course proper. It has been suggested by some horsemen that the present arrangement, which requires that the com peting horses shall be pulled up on their haunches to turn heads for home after completing the outward journey, does not compare with the original order of the hurdles which left the animals practically a straight course to run. Mr Jackson saw a horse called BraJKw win the major event at the show. He was owned by Mr J. Hammond and ridden by Mr L. W. Chaldccott.
