PATEA ADDITION TO NURSES’ HOME. to “Chronicle.”) Dr. Shore, Inspector of Hospitals, was in Patea last Thursday in order to inspect the Nurses’ Home, to which tho Hospital Board hope to make a necessary addition for accommodation for the nurses. Ho was met by the chairman, Mr C. R. Honeyfield, and Messrs Middleton, Christensen, Shcild (secretary), Mr Duffill (architect for the Children’s Ward) and Dr. Simmons. Dr. Shore stated that he thought the addition was very necessary, but he could not promise that the subsidy from the Government would be forthcoming. He inspected the whole hospital and the old Nurses’ Home, as well as the Children’s Ward, of which he expressed approval. WHENUAKURA CO-OP. DAIRY CO. At a meeting of directors of the Whcnuakura Co-op. Dairy Company, Mr F. Parson presiding, held last Saturday, the cheese and butter output for the 1930-31 season was entrusted to the following:—Cheese, to Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., Messrs Foley. Ltd., and Messrs Clements and Son; and tho butter to Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd.

The Park Farm golf links will be closed for a short period from Monday morning. This has been necessitated by the lambing season.

RUGBY FOOTBALL. DECISION OF CHAMPIONSHIPS. SOUTH TARANAKI. The final position of the senior teams are as follows:

Patea 14, v. Eltham 8. Opunake 14, v. Okaiawa 11. Hawera 26 v. Waimate 11. Athletic 6 v. Kaponga 3. Junior Results. Patea beat Athletic by default. Hawera 3, v. Okaiawa 3. Waimate 14, v. Kaponga nil. Opunake beat Alton by default. Patea (Blue) v. Eltham (Black). In the match between Patea and Eltham on the latter’s ground the local team proved the victors by six points after a fast game.

Eltham was the first to score, shortly after commencing play. Eltham attacked and the blues were sorely pressed. Petersen endeavoured to relieve with a kick but Paterson marked but just failed to convert the points. The black backs then pushed hard and after a nice passing run, passed to Prince, who kicked well down, and Penniall securing went across to score. R. Bocock added the extra points.

Patea retaliated immediately. Bourke snapping up and scored after a pretty dash by Zimmerman. Following play saw an attempt, almost succeeding, by Pcrrinall and Campbell to score, but the ball went out at the corner flag. C. Wills relieved Patea from the defensive, carrying the ball to the opposing twenty-five. The black backs once more attacked, and Patea were again hard put to it, but succeeded in defending, and Hurley, securing from a scrum passed to Zimmerman, who made a pretty dash before he was collared. Townsend kicked well down. The black forwards carried play almost to the line, hut Crawford and Petersen saved a difficult situation. Maule, receiving a pass from Baldwin, ran clean through, and passed to Bourke, but a knock-on spoilt the almost certain try.

Aftcr the ensuing scrum the blacks carried the ball down field but were stopped by the posts. The ball came out of a scrum to Penniall, who passed to Casey, to Prince, the latter dashing across to score. Bocock’s kick failed. Half-time was then called.

Patea opened up the second half with a try by Bourke, after a forward rush, which Baldwin and Wills headed. A second try was made by Maule after a pretty dash. And the last try came after hard play up and down field, Patea for the most part attacking. Hurley made this try, beating all opponents and crossing over unopposed. And the score was unaltered shortly after when time was called. Patea 14; Eltham 8. Mr J. F. Kiley refereed.
