PRESENTATION TO MR R. C. TUKE.

On Saturday afternoon the local footballers took the opportunity of farewelling Mr R. C. Tuke, one of the most popular referees in Taihape, who has purchased a farm II miles from Cambridge and leaves Taihape next Friday to take up his new duties. In presenting Mr Tuke with a travelling rug and fountain-pen on behalf of the local footballers, Mr J. Quirk, president of the Taihape Rugby Union referred to the keen interest Mr Tuke had always taken in football, and the manner in which he had fostered the game Mr Tuke had i been one of the best \»otballers Taihape had ever produced Snd had often been selected to represent Wanganui. Mr Tuke was a member of the Wanganui team which played the Springboks iu 1920. After retiring from active participation in football Mr Tuke had become a referee, and often at great inconvenience to himself he had come into Taihape from the country to referee. The footballers greatly appreciated the services rendered by Mr Tuke in the interests of football and could not allow him to leave the district without some tangible token of esteem. Needless to say the football fraternity sincerely regretted Mr Tuke’s impending departure and wished him every success and happiness in his new sphere. Mr Tuke appropriately responded.
