HEATED POLITICIANS
SOUTH AFRICAN SCENE MEMBERS COME TO BLOWS CAPE TOWN, Feb. 7. Senator Boydell, ex-Minister of Labour, knocked out Mr Marwick, member for Illovo (Natal). Both had attended a meeting of the Empire Parliamentary Association and were leaving the committee room at noon when Mr Boydcll stopped Mr Marwick in the corridor and demanded an apology, referring to criticisms made in Parliament on Mr Boydell’s administration of a sugar estate in which an experiment had failed.
Mr Marwick refused to apologise and attempted to brush past Mr Boydell, who hit him in the face. Mr Marwick replied with a blow between the eyes. Mr Boydell drew back and administered a knock-out. Mr Marwick fell heavily and was unconscious for half an hour. When the House met the Leader of of the Opposition amid a tense silence raised the incident as a question of privilege. s The Speaker suggested that a select committee should co-operate with theSenate. The Premier accepted this, whereupon notice was given for Monday,
