During his term in Hunterville Mr Smith has made many friends who will regret his proposed departure. CRICKET HUNTERVILLE v. OLD BOYS Hunterville plays Old Boys at Hunterville to-day. Dalziell presiding. Also present Messrs G. Simpson. L. E. M eston, M. A. 111ston, J. Leslie Lambert and G. Orr. The Department of Agriculture wrote forwarding grant of £5 to cover expenses of noxious weeds inspector. Mr Orr reported on proposed new area to be included in Board’s district. The inspector's report was read and discussed. The secretary tendered his resignation which"was accepted, the secretary to carry on until his successor is appointed. Accounts were passed for payment. MAJESTIC AND TOWN HALL At the Majestic Theatre to-night, Sir Harry Lauder appears in his first picture ’‘Huntingtower.” This picture was made in Scotland, and is full of incident. The Fox special “Mother Knows Best” also shows at tho Majestic, with a comedy and “Tarzan.” At the Town Hall (now under the management of Fuller-Hayward s) the main feature will be “Mother Knows Best”—showing at both places. The usual dancing will also be carried on, and Carrington’s orchestra has a supply of new music for this. TAIHAPE GENERAL NEWS A public meeting of ratepayers will be held in the Town Hall supper room next week when addresses on the proposal to constitute the Borough a Fire District will be given liy the Mayor (Mr J. P. Aldridge) and Crs. de Lautour and Christensen. Two days after the meeting a pool of ratepayers will be taken on the matter. CRICKET NOTES A match between Taihape and Colts was commenced on the Oval Domain on Thursday afternoon. Taihape batted first and made 145 runs, of which Hawk contributed 78 not out. This enterprising batsman gave an excellent display and was heartily congratulated on his splendid effort. His score included one 6 and six 4’s. Glennie (16) was the only other batsman to reach double figures. Bellis took three wickets for 44 runs, Fleet one for 18, Le Lievre one for 17, Benson two for 7, Dripps one for 7 and Thompson one for 16. Colts had lost five wickets for 40 runs (Fleet 9, Le Lievre 9, not out, Glennie 7) when time was called. The match will be continued next Thursday. CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY The annual Christmas party for the children of members of the Awarua and Tui Rebekah Lodges of the 1.0.0. F. (N.Z.) was held in the Three Stars Hall on Thursday evening under the auspices of the two lodges mentioned. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion with variegated streamers and hundreds of balloons. Over 200 children were present and a most enjoyable time was spent. excellent tea was provided, and games and competitions were played during the evening. Toys were distributed to every child by “Father Christmas,” whose arrival caused great excitement amongst the children. The party was controlled by the brothers and sisters of the order. GENERAL NEWS Mr F. H. Moffitt, who is leaving Taihape next Monday to take up a position in Wellington, was farewelled by members of the Pakeha and Y.M.C.A. hockey clubs this week, and presented with a shaving outfit. The presentation was made by Mr L. J. Patrick, captain of the Pakeha Hockey Club, who wished Mr Moffitt every success in his new sphere.
