“AMYTHAS," STILL THE MYSTERIOUS
Dear Wendy,—lt is time I took up my pen to write to you again. The weather has been rather wet and stormy up here lately, but the rain will do good. I am counting the days to Christmas now, as I get my holidays and vill be going home (Bulls) to spend them then. So “Big Brother” reached his majority on the 27th of last month. He will be looking for a wife next, won't he? He should not have to go outside the “Hut" for her either. I ' think there are several members who would gladly avail themselves of the honour. It would be a job for the “Hut’s Padre,” too, wouldn’t it? I hope you will excuse my writing, Wendy, but I never was much of a writer even at school, and having done very little writing since then it has not improved. Oh, Wendy, do you think you could possibly stretch a point and change the last two letters of my penname to “yst” making Amythyst?” I now find that that is how It should be spelt. 1 knew it is against the rules to alter pennames but this is only in part and I hope you can see your way clear to do so. Well, I have not written a great deal but I will plead the same as “Medium Brother,” and say I am not much of a letter-writer. 1 have managed to keep my pen-name a secret from someone so far. I wonder how much longer it will take that someone to find it out ? Well, Wendy, I must close now. With best wishes. —From “AMYTHAS,” Taihape. Goodness yes, it is indeed time you wrote again to me. I have been quite puzzled to know what had become of you this long while, my dear. Oh, but I am afraid you will be making our “Big Brother” feel rather embarrassed. Well, dear, your request is a simple one, but most difficult one to grant. You see when you sought admission I thought that for some reason known to yourself you chose to take the pen-name as you spelt it. Many of our pen-names are not spelt correctly, they being coined words. That is words that are made up and actually seldom having a clearly defined meaning. Such I took yours to be. We already have an “Amythyst,” and I, therefore, regretfully have to tell you I cannot now make the change you desire. I hope you will understand. dear. Ah, yes, I, too, wonder just how long you will be able to kwp yout
"FUSOHIA BLOOM." Fordell.—Goodneas. dear, and hasn’t the time flown? Already December is with us, and Santa Claus will soon be making his appearance among us. I hope he leaves you something lovely. I am glad the names I gave you for the kittens were suitable. Many thanks for the cards. They are always very welcome.—Wendy. “HOME MADE,” Marton. —So pleased to have your welcome letter this week, my dear. I did wonder what had become of you. However, I knew you would not forget me, and that I should have a letter soon. Everyone In our Hut now is happy and looking forward with joyous anticipation to the coming of good Santa Claus. I hope he does not forget you, dear. A name for your kitten? Let me see. It must be something unusual, but pretty. Ah! I have the very name. “Mahoe.” How will that do? It was fine in the afternoon only for qur show. Tht morning was simply dreadful.—Wendy.
“KING OF THE SHADOWS," Wanganui. —Yes, dear, I was just beginning to wonder if I would have to send our Elf to search for you. I could not imagine what had become of you this long while. I am so happy to have your cheery letter this week. The rain has made all the gardens and pastures ever so green and refreshing. Our Clerk knows when his aid is most needed, doesn’t he? So many people’s tanks were quite empty, too. You will let me know if you have passed, won’t you? I shall be anxious to hear. Goodness, and so “Inky Imp” always says ice eream is hot. Dear, dear, dear I I should !ove to hear him sing. The dear little soul. Jacko is awfully mischievous, isn’t he? Yes, dear, our "Old Gran” is a lovely grandma, indeed.—Wendy.
