Salmon, S.M., yesterday. lßM?ant Dunsford represented the Hector Duncan Mitchell, of deceased, said that he left his London Street about 2 p.m. on afternoon, taking deceased and aged four and two years Before leaving he placed children in a side-car attached ■Mr motor cycle. Ho went to Wan- ! Valley and then returned to cliff beach, where they remained me time, while the children pickshells. They then proceeded to residence of witness’s brother, Road, where they stayed for an hour. When they left his place, the deceased was kneelthe seat in tho back of the sidelllß waving good-bye. He told deto sit down, but as she wanted over the back, he left her there, appeared quite safe. proceeded along Selwyn Cres■Rß. and a motor car was travelling ahead. Witness was about a chain behind this car and travelling at about 15 to 20 miles an hour. He could see that the car was going to turn into Grey Street, so he slowed down a little. After the car had turned the corner, witness reached the intersection of Selwyn Crescent and Grey Street. He then observed another car travelling along Grey Street towards Ingestre Street. When he first saw the second motor car coming along Grey Street, it would be about a chain from the intersection, and, as witness intended crossing Grey Street, »hf thought that it would be risky to proceed over the intersection in front of this motor car. He immediately appliei his brakes, and, when the machine hat just about stopped, he pulled it aroum hard to the right, with the result tha the front tyre gripped the bitumen oi the road. The machine lifted from the rear and capsized. Witness was thrown off the machine and the two children thrown out of the side car. Witness was pinned under the machine and the driver of the motor car, which was proceeding along Grey Street, came to their assistance and lifted the machine off him. Witness immediately got up and went to the deceased who was bleeding from the mouth and was unconscious. Witness picked up the deceased, and the driver of the motor car took them to the Public Hospital. Witness remained at the hospital with the deceased who expired a few minutes after admittance. The inquiry was adjourned until 9.30 this morning.
