FASCISTS AND SOCIALISTS FIERCE CLASH IN AUSTRIA (Australian Press Assn.) Received May 19, 11 p.m. .VIENNA, Aug. 19. Several were killed and from 30 to 40 wounded in a fierce clash between Fascists and Socialists at Marein. The Socialists obtained a permit to demonstrate, and the Fascists, known as the “ Ilelmwehr, ” broke their own promise to confine their counter demonstration to a neighbouring village and poured into Marein in order to break up the Socialist meeting. They were stoned by the Socialists and retaliated by the use of rifles and machine guns.
