HOCKEY VISITORS

AUSTRALIAN TEAM’S TOUR WANGANUI PREPARATIONS Wanganui has never yet been found wanting in the matter of according hospitality to visitors to this city and if the activities of the Wan ganui Hockey Association may be taken as an indication, then there will be nothing lacking in Wanganui treat ment of the touring Australian hockey team. Members of the party will arrive in Wanganui on Friday next at 12.35 pjn. and will be met by representa fives of the Association in order that they may be advised of their billets and introduced to their hosts. On {Saturday they will* play the first test match against New Zealand and incidentally the first test match of any kind that has been set down for decision in Wanganui. On Sunday mem bers of the party will De taken on w, tour of the city, suburbs and surrounding district by motor car, departing on Monday for Wellington en route to Dunedin. During their stay in Wanganui the visitors will be well entertained, full preparations having been made by the Wanganui Hockey Association and on Saturday night they will be the guests of the Association at a dance in Harman’s Hall. This function will also be attended by the members of tL| New Zealand team and the visiting Feilding team, all of whom will be the guests of the Wanganui Association. There is every indication thgt this dance will be one of fhe best of its kind ever staged in Wanganui and in connection it is pleasing to be able to record that the Union Boat Club, which holds a weekly Saturday night dance that has reached the pinnacle of success, has offered to forego the dance next Saturday in order to give the Hockey Association a clear night. This action is only another of the many that serve to show how willing the other sports bodies in Wanganui are to assist the Hockey Association on this important occasion. In turn, the action is greatly appreciated by the Hockey Association, who have been much concerned as to the financial success of their venture.
