LONGBURN INCIDENT

POBTEB “MERELY FAINTED” [ Per Press Association. J PALMERSTON N., May 4. A rumour that a startling sequel to the attempts to derail Field’s express at Longburn on Wednesday evening had occurred- the following night, is officially denied. On Thursday evening the station staff at Longburn received a telephone, ring from the signal box where Porter Stairs was stationed. No response was received. An investigation was made, and Mr Stairs was found unconscious on tho floor with a slight scratch on his cheek. The window in the box was broken. When questioned by the police and railway traffic inspector Mr Stairs stated that he had merely fainted.
