WAVERLEY COMMUNITY BUILDING A meeting of the executive of the Waverley and District Women’s Community Building Association was htld in the Town Hall room on May 2. Mr R. P. Palmer presided over the following committee: Mrs Duncan, Miss Muir, Miss Cheephe, Miss Elmslie, Dr. Duncan, Dr. Graves, Messrs Currie, Forsyth, Dallison, Mrs Forsyth (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs McGregor and McFarlane. Mr Graham, solicitor, waited on the meeting and read the rules of incorporation, which were signed in accordance therof. It was reported that an estimated cost of the building was in the vicinity of 800. A sub-committee of Messrs R- P, Palmer, Dallison and Dr. Duncan, was elected to revise plans and arrange for calling of tenders locally A vot c of thanks was passed to Mr Gray, for having the specincations typed. It was decided to place on view in tlie shop windows three copies of the proposed building plans. BOY'S AND GIRLS’ CALF CLUB The annual meeting of the Boys ’ and Girls’ Calf Club was held ou Thursday evening, Mr E. Aitken presiding. There were present Messrs L. J. Davis, D. Howard, J. Browning, D. Carroll, C. O ’Rilley and N. P. Wallace. Mr L. J. Davis was elected honorary secretary in place of Mr N. P. Wallace, retired. A strong committee was elected to carry out the operations of the club during the next year. A resolution was passed recommending the adoption of a scale of points for judging in place of the present method. It was unanimously agreed that by adopting a scale of points the* children a s exhibitors, would, be in a better position to follow the judges’ awards. It was resolved to include an extra clas s in next year’s catalogue to include any crossbred calf. The matter of revising the rule s for next year was left in the hands of jpe chairman. PATEA GOLF. The Patea Golf Club were very fortunate with the weather for a medal match on the local links on Saturday. Gifford Hughes was the winner with a net score of 74, closely followed by Gordon Wills with a net 76, most successful euchre party. The committee of the Country Baby will be holding euchre parties evsry Thursday night in the Plunket Rouns, and all are assured of a hearty welcome and a good time. TOWN BABY. On Thursday a very pleasant afternoon was held in St. John’s Haii in aid of the Town Baby, Card games and competitions were indulged in, the winners being -Mesdames Richardson and Cosford, Songs were given Mesdames Richardson, Hussey and Carver, and Miss Hughes acted as accompanist. A very enjoyable social gathering in connection with the Rangataua Metajdits Church was held on Thursday, and was well attended. BOWLING The final game for Webb Bros, trophy, presented for competitions of the northern lubs of the Wanganui Centre, including Taumaranui was played during the week-end and resulted in W. Watson (2) being returned as champion of champions, defeating C. McWilliam, Ohakunc, by 9. The scores were Watson J 9; McWilliam 12 in the first game and Matson 15, McWilliam 14 in lhe second. Air W. Richardson, president of the Ohakune club, on behalf of the donors handed over Webb’s Motors Cup. It is a handsome silver mounted bowl, neatly placed on a silver cup. The competition is to be played on the Ohakunc and Raetihi greens alternately and is held under lhe Dominion Bowling Association rules. The speaker congratulated -Mr Watson on being the first holder.
Air Watson suitably replied, complimenting the runner-up on the good fight he had made for the cup. The following games have recently been played:— Colts’ Singles: Kirker 20, Taylor 11; Channing 18, Kirker 12. Junior Singles: AlcKay 15, Webb 14; ‘McKay IS, Cosford 23. Club Pairs: Newlands and Pearce 25, Curran (sub) and Thomasson 16; Watson and List 25, Cosford and Young 22. Practice Games; Moran, Cronin, Harler 23 v. AlcDonald, Walsh, Clemett 20; Dennis, Curtis, Lightband, Richardson 15 v. Finn, Kirker, Mahoney, Curran 11. The following ae the results of the various competitions for the season:— Senior Singles: C. AlcWilliam. Junior Singles: G. Newlands. ‘ oils Singles: H. Curran, jnr. Club Pairs: W. Watson and O. List.
HUNTERVILLE GENERAL NEWS A stamp vending machine is being placed in the lobby of the local Post Office. The walls of the new Town Hall are almost complete. The house shortage question is always a trouble in Hunterville. If one becomes empty by any chance there ar c many would-be tenants waiting. There have been a few transfers recorded in the property market in Hunterville lately. This week is shopping week in Hunterville and a special display ot New Zealand and British Empire goods i s being made. A value judging competition and an essay for school children is also being held. The Chamber of Commerce arranged the events. The secretary’s report to the local branch of the W.D.F.IJ. showed a credit balance of £8 12s, while a sum of £lO 4 S Id had been donated to the community chest.
