TROTTING

CAMBRIDGE FIXTURE REREMAI’S CUP SUBPRISE. [Per P - cs* Association j CAMBRIDGE, May 4. The Cambridge Trotting Club’s annual fixture was held to-day in glorious weather before a record attendance. The track was in excellent order and the meeting was the most successful in the history of the club. The totalisator handled £20,288, against £19,458 last year.. Arising out of the running in the Introductory Handicap a protest was made by the driver of Sweet Mfimory against Julian, driver of Special Bell, for alleged crossing at the entrance of the straight. The protest was dismissed. In the Leamington Handicap the favourite, Great Parrish, broke up badly in the early tages and again when likely in the run home. After this Moko Fly was never troubled to win comfortably. There were fourteen starters in the Cup event. Cora Tacks, Gold Treasure, Peter Pirate and Carmel led early. Reremai took charge with about a mile to go and led into the straight from Peter Pirate, Derby Lynn and Daytime. Reremai stayed on well t- win by three-quarters of a length. Hal Chimes was fourth. Then came Carmel, Concertina, Great Delight and Great Pieter. The surprise of the meeting was the win of Nathaniel in the Hautapu Handicap. The little-fancied gelding took charge half a mile from home and went on to win in good style, returning investors a dividend of nearly half a century. Akenehi was turned out in great nick for the Bardowie Handicap. Although she broke when she ?ad the race in hand round the bend to the straight she came again and beat Sebisca in a sterling finish by a head.
