HAPPY EMPLOYEES
A SHOP AS A GIFT Five young women who received the gift of a millinery shop from their employer were recently the happiest girls in. New York. It is named the Moulin Rouge, and is one of the best named shops in the theatrical district on Broadway. Established many years ago by Mr Herman Freed, it has proved so profitable that Mr Freed, although still under 50 years of age, is now able to retire and make a tour of the world. His five young assistants have been with him some years and have often shared in the profits which the shop ha< earned. But they were much surprised when their employer called them into the office and said briefly: <‘l am retiring from business and this shop B now yours.” Before leaving Mr Freed paid a month’s rent. The stock and shop fittings are worth £5OOO, but the goodwill alone should provide a livelihood for the five girls.
