MANGAWEKA THE TOWN BOARD The usual monthly meeting of the Mangaweka Town Board was held last week, Mr A. Milner, chairman, presiding. A letter was received from the Wellington Electrical Workers’ Union notifying the Board of the date for the hearing of the dispute by the Commissioner. The clerk was instructed to write a letter of thanks to the Mangaweka Football Club, and also to the Plunket Society for their donations to the rest room. It was decided to give the town clerk an assistant for a month. Accounts amounting to £240 17s lid (Town Board) and £1 (Library) were passed for payment. Domain Board. A meeting of the Domain Board was held in the Town Board office last week, Mr A. Milner presiding. A letter was received from the Mangaweka Football Club asking the Board if it would erect two extra lights on the Domain, on the same condition as previously—half the cost by the football club and half by the Board, This was agreed to. A deputation waited on the Board from the tennis club stating that as the club had been put to a considerable expenditure in the improvement of the Domain they wished to know if the Board would make the club a grant. After general discussion it was decided to grant the tennis club £2O. Accounts amounting to £5 were passed for payment. The Plunket Society. The annual meeting of the Mangaweka sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held on Thursday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and an enthusiastic meeting was the result. The report and balance sheet for the year’s work was presented by tAe committee, and was very favourably commented on. The old committee were re-elected, with Mesdames O’Callaghan and Fallover added. Sale day of each month was made the meeting day. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs H Sweet; vicepresidents, Mesdames Glenn, Roache, J. Graham. H C. Wilson, M. Graham, J. Guthrie and T. Pairman; committee, Mesdames Rowley, Thompson, Stewart, Lawson, Watson, Langston, Moroney, H. Johnston, Way mouth, Monk, J. Reilly, H. Dalrymple and Turnbull; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs R. H. H. Guthrie. The branch has had a year of steady progress. Rangiwahia have arranged for a room in the hall for the nurse’s use, and new furnishings have been added. During the year 362 adults and 361 children have visited the nurse at the offices. Financially the branch is in a sound position. The public responded well to the annual appeal, and the committee are very grateful to them e The committee again received the Government grant of £lO for the nurse’s fare. The meeting terminated with the usual tribute to the cjiair.
