COURT NEWS. [ Special “Chronicle” Service 1 On Thursday evening Constable Thompson arrested a man named John Thomas Kennedy, with several aliases, and a Jong list of offences, for which ho had been convicted, and he appeared before Alessrs 11. Y’. Canferon and D. Ingle, J.’sP., on Friday morning, charged with being found nt the. Rangitikei races last month while a prohibited person and with obtaining credit by fraud from a local hotelkeeper. On the first charge he was remanded to appear at Wanganui, and on the second charge he was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment. Rose Kennedy, wife of the above offender, with several aliases, was charged with being an idle and disorderly person and having insufficient lawful means of support. >She was convicted and discharged. Reginald Eugene Seagar, of Hawera, who was arrested on warrant, was charged with failing to maintain his wife ami children and was remanded to appear at Hawera. A first, offending inebriate appeared before a local J.l’, on Thursday morning and was convicted and discharged. NOXIOUS WEEDS. With reference to the spread of noxious weeds in the county, the Ran- j gitikei County Council yesterday passed a resolution viewing with alarm the rapid spread of noxious weeds, such as ragwort, blackberry, hemlock', etc., in by-strei ts and vacant sections within many boroughs, where Government inspectors have no authority to enforce the Noxious Weeds Art. As such weeds are now the most serious menace farmers have to contend with, this Council urges the Alinister for Agriculture to bring all boroughs under the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Act, so that the departmental inspectors may have the same authority as with- | in the counties. A remarkably strong cast has been allotted to ‘•The Thirteenth Hour,” lending additional delight, to the dual interest of the dog’s intelligent acting and the gripping mystery story.
Alarton Old Boys senior football team will engage in a post-competition encounter with a Rata team on Alarton Park this afternoon, the kick oil to take place at 3 o’clock. DRESSING SHEDS AT MARTON PARK. Mr W. E. Gibbons presided over an enthusiastic meeting of members of the Alarton Old Boys Football Club last evening, when it was decided to invite six- delegates from the Athletic Football Club and Alarton Athletic Liub to attend a meeting of delegates from the three citiT's on Thursday evening next Io elect an executive committee to complete arrangements for the erection ot dressing sheds on Alarton Park. It was suggested that the guarantees be limited to £2 and £3O was guaranteed in the room. A deputation from the meeting will place their views before the Alarton Borough Council on Tuesday evening next.
