BEAUTIFUL ELBOWS
(A matter of muscle —Filling out and reducing) POLISHING THE ARMS Many of the pretty elbows that look so well in the evening owe their beauty to strict adherence to various weirdefined rules. Nature decrees that well-shaped elbows arc dependent on the muscles; it follows, therefore, that exercise is the great essential. Reducing and Filling Out
An over-plump, rounded elbow, means that there is a considerable deposit of fat where there should be none, and implies a certain lack of elasticity in the physical make-up. Fivo minute* exercise night and morning for a month will correct this. Put the arms out straight from the sides. Now double them at the elbows until the hands come up under the armpits, straightening them out quickly. Tn drawing the arms under, the muscles should be tense as though you wore pulling a heavy weight uncle? the arms. Another exercise is to place the elbows at the sides, drawing the fists towards the chest. Then strike out
quickly, first with one fist and then with the other, just as though you were punching a bag. A good method of “filling out” bony elbows is to stand with the arms at the sides, shutting the hands tightly. Now draw them up so that they bend at the elbow; the uppe arms should be tight against the sid z ‘ of the body. Bring the hands to the shoulders slowly and with all the exertion possible, just as though you were lifting heavy weights with both hands. Polishing the Arms
It is now the fashion among many society beauties to have their arms and elbows “polished” before going to a ball. This polishing process consists of thoroughly rubbing the skit with a mixture of glycerine and rosewater, and afterwards covering it with cold cream. Allow the cream to remain on for fifteen minutes, then rub oU with a piece of soft white flannel, cover the skin with good toilet powder, and well rub it again. Not only will this treatment beautify the skin, but it will impart a delicate line to the elbows and arms.
