CHAMBER OF COMMERCE A meeting of the Hunterville Chamber of Commerce was hold on Thursday, Mr R. M. S. Jones presiding. Also present were: Messrs J. W. Clark, W. O’Brien, B. A. Yclverton, A. D. Hunter,. G. Mcßae, R. Hardy, W. H. Bowick, P. C. Guthrie, J. Klue, J. P. Kelly, M. Russell, G. R. Hall, R. Hunt, G. Stratford, D. J. Graham. Messrs. L. J. Thompson, C. C. Southey, S. A. R. Mair and M. Russell were elected members. Mr L. J. Thompson wrote enclosing a donation of £1 Is, and suggesting that a sub-committee be set up to assist the Beautifying Society with its annual show. Air Thompson was thanked for his donation, and will be informed that the appointing of a committee as suggested would be dealt with at a subsequent meeting. The Wanganui Education Board in reply to a letter from the Chamber, sent a copy of a letter written to the Hunterville School Committee stating that if the committee were successful in its efforts to add to the roll number of the High School, the Board would be only too glad to assist the committee in its desire to prevent its disestablishment. The committee set up to arrange for Christmas festivities reported: That the town had been thoroughly canvassed, the committee meeting w T ith a splendid reception. Arrangements had been made to purchase six strings of coloured lights, the Domain Board agreeing to pay half the cost, the lights to become the property of the Board. The Power Board would also lend two extra strings of lights. Shopkeepers will specially decorate shops on Christmas eve, and a spotting competition has been arranged for which £2 10s has been allotted for prize money. Father Christmas will appear in Hunterville during the afternoon on Monday, December 24, and every child will receive a present. AH toys and sweets will be purchased locally. A sum of £3O 3s had been collected and there was more to come in. This was to be spent as follows: Chamber’s share of lighting £l5, toys and sweets for Father Christmas £4, spotting competition £4 10s, circulars and postage £4. This would leave a balance for emergencies. The streets will be specially illuminated on December 15, 22, 24, 29, and 31. Coloured strings were allotted as follows: High Street two, Bruce Street two. Milne Street two, and two at corner crossing near Bank of New Zealand. It was decided that the “spotting competition” commence on December The committee was authorised to arrange for Christmas decorations and spend up to £2. CRICKET Hunterville will play Marton at Marton to-day. The Hunterville team: W. A. Bowick, J. Stewart, C. Bowick (or W. Cook), R. Hunt, C. C. Southey, A. W. Porter, J. Hallwood, S. S. Powell, C. R. Higgins, V. Goodall, S. O. Aleone. FLOWER SHOW A statement of receipts of the flower show is as follows: Sewing and fancy stall, £6l 6s Id; produce stall, £l4 18s 2d; sweets, £5 14s 2d; bran tub, £4 15s; ice cream, £5 Ils 7d; tea-room, £l2 8s Id; door, £l7 4s; entry fees, £9 19s; donation, £2B 2s 6d; Dutch auction, £1 17s sd; total, £l6l 16s. A sum of approximately £lO is included in the sewing and fancy stall from Pukeroa.
