STEAMER GOES ASHORE MISHAP TO WINGATUI. [ Per Press Association. 1 DUNEDIN, Dec. 6. When leaving the harbour late on Wednesday night for Auckland, the steamer Wingatui went aground at tho entrance to Victoria Channel, the mishap being caused through her machinery being disabled by the main air pump breaking. The vessel was towed off at 11.30 a.m. to-day and berthed to have repairs effected. As the Wingatui was lying fore and aft across the channel, the passway was blocked, and shipping movements disorganised until midday. The Holmdale, Manuka, Waipiata and Port Curtis all berthed at Dunedin several hours late.. A strong north-east gale prevails, and the steamer Benholm, also the Wingatui, are unable to sail for Westport. The vessel in is in light trim, and will remain at her berth awaiting calmer weather.
